Ashtanga Led Class

Ashtanga Yoga – 6 week Beginners Course
at Oceans Wellbeing Centre, Rottingdean

This beginner’s course will introduce the ashtanga vinyasa, primary series also known as “yoga chikitsa”, which means yoga therapy.  It’s main purpose is to realign the skeletal system particularly the spine and detoxify the physical body. It also builds a foundation of considerable physical strength.Ashtanga yoga is often misunderstood as “too challenging” or not appropriate for a particular age or body type.  However taught by skilled instructors, Ashtanga yoga is appropriate for all ages and body types and can begin as gently as needed with students progressing when they are ready.  Part of the practice for a student is to learn to let go of the ego and listen to the body by focusing on the breath which sets a rhythm to the practise.

About Kathryn
Kathryn Duckenfield teaches in Brighton and until recently in London.  While pursuing a career in the theatre Kathryn discovered Ashtanga and after just a few months of practice she experienced positive changes on a physical and emotional level. It was at this point she knew that she wanted to learn more about this form of yoga and to be able to share it with others.  Kathryn has 8 years Ashtanga experience, is an enthusiastic teacher, her classes are run in a warm, safe and friendly environment.  Her goal is to continue studying and evolving in her own practice; broadening her knowledge and experience to pass on to those whom she teaches, inspiring them to lead happy, healthy and fulfilling lives.
Ashtanga often becomes part of a daily routine practised first thing in the morning.

“There are those moments that make it all worthwhile. I’m carried on my breath like a leaf on the wind: folding, arching, twisting, bending, leaping lightly from one posture to the next. My body tingles with energy; my mind is quietly absorbed in the hypnotic rhythm of practice. The poses seem strung on the breath like prayer beads on a mala; I enter each one to the best of my ability, savouring the silky stretches, the pleasurable ache of muscles taxed to their edge.”

Class Times:Tuesday 8.30 – 10.00pm

(This is the only evening Kathryn has available)
